Learning in My Language

Documentary by Francisco Espinoza and Viviana Corvalán

Learning in My Language (Chile), 2017 - 22 min.

Short documentary about a Deaf teacher from the special school Santiago Apóstol, who teaches her Deaf students, in Chilean sign language, how they can learn Spanish, their second language. This work is of a technical pedagogical nature and is developed through the field monitoring of this group. This audiovisual material highlights the importance of the concept of "intercultural bilingualism", which consists of respect for their language (Lsch), identity and Deaf culture; as well as how, together with the incorporation of Deaf adults to school, children acquire knowledge and worldviews, giving special emphasis to respect for their natural language, under a socio-anthropological perspective.
